Bad Political Sign Designs

Below are some examples of political signs that have come through my screen printing shop. When designing your political signs be sure not to duplicate the simples mistakes I've outlined below.

Do not let the layout of the yard sign interfere with the message.

  • Is this candidates name 'Farri' or 'Farr'?
  • If the design detracts from the message then you are wasting your money and your time.

This yard sign may look impressive on the computer screen but it will be difficult to read going 30 miles per hour.

  • Main font face is too 'fancy'
  • Four different font families on the same page is not good
  • The sign is way too busy ( too much clutter — no white space )
  • This would look great as a logo for a baseball jersey

Too many words on a yard sign spoils the message!

  • KISS — Keep It Simple Stupid.
  • If your message is this long may I suggest perhaps a TV commercial or a printed flyer

Poor use of space!

  • This yard sign would be better suited for a 12" x 24" sign

No Color Contrast

  • Purple and Red are NOT a good color combination!
  • In this case a one color sign would have been more effective
